What is the best way to find students?  [Top]

Finding students can be accomplished in a variety of ways.  Most importantly however, your profile should be easily accessible and complete.  With an account, you are provided with a number of tools to ensure that your information is seen on the site:

  • Get a Virtual Classroom: Having a Virtual Classroom is essentially like having your own classroom on the Tutoring Hut.  It portrays your ability to host classes and/or tutoring sessions.  Once you obtain your virtual classroom, you can promote it through the website or elsewhere.  Anyone can enter your Virtual Classroom as long as you provide them with your classroom password (establishing an account with the Tutoring Hut is not necessary).

  • Participate: Ask and answer questions in the subject forum.

  • Create or Join a Group: By creating or joining a group (such as "Math Whizzes"), you are building or gaining exposure to people who share similar interests.  This makes it easier to network and potentially meet students!

  • Earn Points: One of the best ways to be found is to be on the Leader Board – the top 5 members of the month based on participation.  The leader board is a universal module that is seen by everyone on the site.  The top member at the end of the month is rewarded by being displayed on a plaque under the leader board.

  • Create a Custom URL (www.TutoringHut.com/YourName): A custom URL is basically a personalized domain that can be accessed by anyone, regardless of whether they have an account or not.  Advertise your custom URL and be found instantly!  To create a custom URL, simply scroll over your "Profile" tab and click the "Preferences" link.

Why is my Virtual Classroom acting up?   [Top]

As we are continuously working to improve our Virtual Classrooms, we have noticed that certain precautions should be noted in order for the room to function at the highest level.

RECOMMENDED:

  • Use a headset when using the webcam feature

NOT RECOMMENDED:

  • Web chatting with more than two people at a time (different internet speeds and computers might cause lag or echo)

What are the features of my Virtual Classroom?   [Top]

The Tutoring Hut's Virtual Classroom is a unique tool offered to all members, and an integral part of the learning process.  Learn more by clicking here.

What subjects are being offered?   [Top]

You can find ANY subject offered by members, as long as they are registered as tutors of that particular subject.  Upon registration, you are given the option to select from a broad range of general subjects. You can then choose specific subjects you prefer to focus on.  For example, Math would be classified as a general subject, and Algebra would be a specific subject.  If you would like to know if a specific subject is being offered, simply search.

How do I know if I can trust a tutor?   [Top]

Research his or her profile – how active are they on the site? Do they have good feedback on their wall? Do they have experience?  What is their education level?  By examining a users profile, you should be able to get a good idea of what their services might be like.

What should I do if I am extremely dissatisfied with a user's service?   [Top]

If you are dissatisfied with any sort of service, you have the option to report the user (link located in the upper right hand corner of every user's profile). In this report, please describe the issues or events that took place which affected you.  The Tutoring Hut team will then evaluate the situation, and take necessary actions.  To review further information regarding this issue, please read our Terms & Conditions.

How much do I get paid as a Tutor?   [Top]

This is completely up to you!  You determine your own rate.

How do I get paid?  [Top]

All financial transactions are at the sole discretion of users.  Transactions between users are currently not offered through the Tutoring Hut.

How much does it cost to use the site?   [Top]

When you become a member, you gain access to the entire community of students, tutors, teachers, etc.  You also have FULL access to post and to connect with other users.   Every member is offered their own Virtual Classroom as well, where they can connect with other members through the options of webcam, chat, a virtual whiteboard, screen sharing (cast your screen to the members in your room), document sharing and MORE! When you have done your research, and found a tutor you wish to work with, you pay them according to their rate.  Once you have officially begun services, the finances are between you and the tutor.
